Afghan Communicator

Accomplishments

1997 - 2002
Afghan Communicator was an academic magazine (see publication page for archieved issues)

2002 - Present
Afghan Communicator is a federally accredited 501c3 non-profit organization

As a magazine, Afghan Communicator published 13 issues, most of which will be archieved in our publication page. As of early 2002, AC became a non-profit organization, no longer printing magazines, but taking an active role in representing the Afghan community. As NY's only community based Afghan organization, AC was called upon to perform a number of different tasks, some of which we were unprepared for. However as the representatives of the Afghan community, AC successfully completed them. For a comprehensive overview of our activities throughout the years, please see our accomplishment lists below, or refer to our Community Bulletins (newsletters) on our 'Publication' page.

The collective sum of our activities have made us the most active Afghan organization anywhere. AC is the proud founder of many pioneering projects such as:
  • the Inter Afghan Youth Afghan Professionals Summit (formerly Inter Afghan Youth Summit), which is an annual gathering of active young Afghan professionals, where they share their successes and learn from others how to better serve the Afghan community in their own city. See the 'Summit' page for more information.
  • the Most Active Young Afghan Award, created to encourage active young leaders to be more active in the community;
  • the Torch Bearers of Afghan Culture Award, an event to honor Afghan cultural and literary icons in their lifetime;
  • the Afghan Events weekly bulletin, the only one of its kind anywhere, which is a weekly email bulletin containing jobs, events, scholarships, grants and announcements, reaching thousands around the world every week. See our 'Events, Jobs' page for more information
  • the Know Books project is an effort to collect and donate non-proselytizing publications and audio/video materials on Afghanistan and Islam, to public libraries in the US for public education;
  • and the Karyaaby Journal, Afghanistan's first classified publication. Designed for newly granduating students, disarmed malitia, and repatriated Afghans who are looking for an opportunity to better their lives.

Moreover, Afghan Communicator is the first Afghan organization to organize the only Afghan Art & Film festival in North America. AC is the largest holder of Afghan arts and films in North America as well as the only art and culture organization.

Afghan Communicator organizes a number of projects annually, some of which are reoccuring but some are unique to their area and time. The projects and events differ in size and scope, but they all fulfill our mission of education, youth leadership, advocacy, community & professional development, art & culture. While our accomplishement list below documents almost all of our activities sequentially, we are eager to share some project description.
